Tokyo and Beyond with ANA

Beyond Tokyo with ANA: Flexible &
Cost-Effective Across Japan

ANA doesn’t only connect your clients directly from Europe to Tokyo, but also
seamlessly onwards across Japan. With over 40 domestic destinations, you
can easily tailor itineraries to match every travel style.

The main benefit here: booking international and domestic legs on one ticket
offers substantial fare savings for your clients.

Key Fare Rules at a Glance

No Add-on Fare

No add-on fare is charged for domestic legs within Japan when all flight segments are issued on the same ticket instead of being booked separately. Clients only pay the applicable taxes and fees for the domestic flight segments. This policy applies to one domestic flight per direction of travel and only to tickets originating in Europe (POO Europe). Open jaw itineraries are permitted.

No Stopover Fee

Stopovers at the gateway city (Tokyo or Osaka) between Europe and Japan incur no extra fee (saving €75 per stopover). One fee-free stopover is permitted per direction of travel, giving your clients the flexibility to enjoy an extended stay in Tokyo at the start, the end, or both ends of their trip without any ticket surcharge.

The Advantage for Your Itineraries: This setup makes it easy to add up to two destinations to an itinerary with minimal added cost. While Tokyo easily fills a two-week stay – especially when including popular day trips to Kamakura or Hakone – it’s just as simple to send clients further afield. Why stay only in Tokyo when you can explore completely different regions of Japan?

Itinerary Ideas

The "Golden Route"

The classic itinerary for first-time visitors connects the major urban centers Tokyo and Osaka with historic cities like Kyoto and Nara.

Subtropical Japan:
Okinawa

As Japan's southernmost prefecture, this subtropical island chain shows clients a completely different side of the country - defined by white-sand beaches, warm waters, and the distinct local Ryukyu culture.

Nature & History: Kyushu

Kyushu is an excellent fit for repeat visitors or clients specifically seeking a calmer Japanese experience defined by smaller towns, lush valleys, and dramatic volcanic landscapes.

The "Golden Route"

The classic itinerary for first-time visitors connects the major urban centers Tokyo and Osaka with historic cities like Kyoto and Nara. Here, clients can wander through ancient temple grounds, feed the famous roaming deer in Nara, or dive into Osaka’s vibrant street food scene.

Since Kyoto experiences particularly high visitor numbers, this route is best offered outside of peak travel periods. However, clients can also easily extend their trip to escape the biggest crowds. For instance, they can take the Shinkansen train from Osaka down to Hiroshima, and then fly back directly through Tokyo under the same domestic ticket rules.

Subtropical Japan: Okinawa

As Japan’s southernmost prefecture, this subtropical island chain shows clients a completely different side of the country—defined by white-sand beaches, warm waters, and the distinct local Ryukyu culture. The main island of Okinawa offers the most developed infrastructure, making it an easy addition for a few days of relaxation.

Beyond the main island, ANA also flies to Miyako, renowned for its crystal-clear coastal waters coloured in the most vibrant blue and turquoise tones, and Ishigaki. Ishigaki is a fantastic spot for snorkeling and serves as the perfect gateway to Iriomote, an island largely covered in dense jungle and known for its diverse wildlife.

Nature & History: Kyushu

Kyushu is an excellent fit for repeat visitors or clients specifically seeking a more rural Japanese experience defined by smaller towns, lush valleys, and dramatic volcanic landscapes. Thanks to this geothermal activity, the region is world-renowned for its onsen (natural hot spring baths) and traditional ryokans (classic Japanese inns featuring tatami-mat rooms, multi-course kaiseki dining, and authentic local hospitality).

A major highlight is the Aso-Kuju National Park, which features an active volcano with multiple craters and can be easily reached by bus from Kumamoto. For clients who still appreciate a bit of city life, major urban centers like Fukuoka and Nagasaki are very straightforward to navigate, even for first-time visitors. Nagasaki, in particular, offers a deep dive into history. It is home not only to significant World War II sites but also to Dejima, the historic island trading post where European trade with Japan first began. It’s a region that perfectly balances breathtaking nature, deep relaxation, and profound historical significance.

Beyond Tokyo Off-Season

Japan’s growing popularity means major tourist centers are becoming increasingly busy. Beyond exploring destinations off the Golden Route, booking clients during the off-season is another smart approach – not only to dodge the crowds, but also to take advantage of particularly attractive fares.

January & February

During the winter months, greater Tokyo enjoys mild temperatures and predominantly sunny weather. While the northern island of Hokkaido becomes a winter paradise for ski enthusiasts and nature lovers, southern regions like Kyushu offer a real insider tip: the plum blossom season (Ume), filling the air with vibrant colors and rich scents. Further south in Okinawa, temperatures reaching up to 20°C on pristine beaches give travellers an early taste of summer.

May & June

Just before the rainy season begins, travelers can experience the country in lush, vibrant green without the oppressive heat and humidity of mid-summer. This period is ideal for nature lovers and culture enthusiasts alike. Early summer is also peak time for traditional local festivals (matsuri) across Japan, offering clients a chance to enjoy traditional music, vibrant parades, and an incredible variety of delicious street food.

November & December

Autumn is still in full swing during these months, transforming the landscape into a sea of vivid red, orange, and gold. For travellers interested in shrines, temples, and traditional Japanese gardens, this season delivers arguably the most beautiful natural scenery of the year—with the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku being prime locations. On top of the stunning foliage, the pleasantly mild climate is one of the biggest perks of late autumn travel.
